Victory over Anxiety: Take your Anxious Thoughts Captive provides a realistic blend of relaxation exercises and clinically-proven cognitive techniques to help reduce anxiety. Victory over Anxiety also integrates information on nutrition, exercise, and restful sleep, as it pertains to mental health.
Victory Over Anxiety by Dr. Andrea Ganahl is a great self-help book. I was initially drawn to the book by the title alone. I know many people who deal with anxiety, so I thought the book would be worth reading. Dr. Ganahl demonstrated her expertise on the topic. Still, more importantly, I was pleasantly surprised to see that she also shared from a personal place of vulnerability. Having dealt with anxiety for much of her adult life, I appreciated that she presented the material in an informative and compassionate manner. Anxiety can be debilitating for many individuals, living with anxiety she shared from a first-hand experience of the condition.
One thing, I think, would make the book a better tool is having a table of contents. I like self-help books that include a table of contents to tap specific information when needed.
Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. Dr. Ganahl did a great job sharing stories that helped me understand and even relate to the material discussed.
