An Author’s Take Review

As a mature woman, I don’t typically gravitate to young adult books, but the cover art and title caught my attention, so I figured I would give it a read. We were all young once, right? I am glad I did. If you are looking for a young adult book, check out Unbreakable by K. J. Rowe. The book is fantastic.

Lexi Slaydon is a young adult actively involved in her church youth group activities. Many portray Lexi as beautiful, smart, kind, and loved. She is living what appears to be a joyful and perfect life until opportunities arise that cause her to examine her strengths and weaknesses, with confidence being her most significant weakness.

The story gets interesting as Lexi and her church friends take on youth group leadership roles while also dealing with life as young adults. As Lexi feels a bit overwhelmed, a stranger quickly captures her attention, allowing her to briefly forget her confidence issues. Brad, the stranger, works nearby and frequents Lexi’s workplace often. His visits become a bright spot in Lexi’s day until life takes an unexpected turn. Everything Lexi thinks about her life and future drastically changes, causing her to reexamine her most recent decisions.

The book is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader hooked. I gained a new perspective on what our young adults deal with growing up today. It is eerily similar to my generation but also very different. I loved how the author kept God front and center in words and deeds. The takeaway, God is with us always. It doesn’t matter what circumstances we experience in life. He never leaves us.

I give Unbreakable 4 out of 5 stars.

Note: I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write a positive review nor compensated for sharing my thoughts. I am disclosing this per FTC regulations.

About the Author

unbreakableSince I could hold a pencil, I’ve been writing.

In primary school, I wrote stories about my pets, my own version of princess stories, a classroom crush…

In high school, I wrote stories about horses, adventures, my sister…

However, as strong as the writing hobby was, I still pursued a career in Veterinary Nursing.

It wasn’t until God intervened and moved me out of the city and into a small country town to be a farmer’s wife, that he resurfaced the writing desire – and gave me the stories. So was born my debut series, each book holding a part of my own testimony, Casts of Silver.

It is my prayer that you enjoy the journey these stories take you on, and that they challenge, encourage and inspire you.

More from Karen

Hello! Im Karen, or Kazzy Wazzy to my husband. 😃

Since I could hold a pencil, I’ve been writing.

In primary school, I wrote stories about my pets, my own version of princess stories, a classroom crush… *grin*

In high-school, I wrote stories about horses, adventures, my Sister…remember that story sis? *smile*

However, as strong as the writing hobby was, I still pursued a career in Veterinary Nursing by day, and a professional Ballroom Dance teacher of an evening.

It wasn’t until God intervened, moved me out of the city at into a small country town to be a farmers wife, that He resurfaced the writing desire – and gave me the stories. So was born my debut series, each book holding a part of my own testimony, Casts of Silver.

Centred around five youth group leaders, the stories look at very real circumstances young people face without sugar coating consequences of individual actions. However, where is God when problems arise?

Well, He’s always closer than you think, and He’s always working for your good.

It is my prayer you enjoy the journey these stories take you on and that they challenge, encourage and inspire you.
