Thrilling Magical Adventure
This is the first book I have read by author L.G. Nixon. Truthfully, I do not gravitate toward young adult fiction books and definitely not tales with ghosts. However, I have a grandson in high school who loves this type of book, so I figured I would give it a read. I am so glad that I did. The book is fantastic!
In “The Ghost of Darwin Stewart, ” be prepared for an exhilarating journey through the supernatural. This captivating tale follows Lucy, an unsuspecting protagonist who encounters a smelly ghost and a terrifying shape-shifting entity that follows her home. Little does Lucy know, she holds the key to a millennia-old artifact sought by a malevolent spirit, putting everyone she loves in grave danger.

The story starts with a thrilling twist as Lucy discovers a trunk filled with ordinary items and several magical artifacts gained from a flea market vendor. As she explores the hidden depths of these treasures, Lucy discovers the items give her incredible powers. Central to her newfound abilities is the Spectrescope, a mystical object that unveils an otherworldly reality filled with magic, spirits, wizards, and daemons.
“The Ghost of Darwin Stewart” shines with its imaginative world-building and vivid descriptions. The author effortlessly paints a picture of a captivating realm beyond our own with enchanting elements and a sense of wonder. The Spectrescope emerges as a pivotal artifact, unlocking numerous secrets that hold the fate of both the portal’s world and Lucy’s own reality.
The book maintains a riveting pace. Lucy confronts the weighty decision of protecting the artifact or prioritizing her safety. From a Christian perspective, readers are invited to ponder the complexities of sacrifice and the lengths one would go to safeguard what one holds dear. This moral dilemma adds depth to the narrative, taking readers to a much deeper level.
In the book, a malevolent spirit intends to gain the Spectrescope, which keeps the suspense high and drives the plot forward. Alongside Lucy, a cast of well-developed characters supports the story, each with unique motivations and alliances adding to the narrative.
L.G. Nixon writes masterfully, providing the reader with an engaging adventure. The novel definitely immerses readers in a world where the supernatural intersects with the ordinary. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

LG loves to ski, ride motorcycles, travel, and fly small planes; but no bungee jumping, thank you very much.
More from LG Nixon
I’ve always had zany and quirky imagination. Growing up in a creaky old house with a grandmother who told stories of ghostly visitations, I was curious. As a child, I filled journals with mystery and detective stories.
These days I write about ghosts and spirits to entertain, and use scripture as dialogue to portray God’s love and forgiveness, our hope of redemption, and the reality of a supernatural dimension just beyond our perception.
Why would a Christian author write about ghosts? Because scripture is filled with ghosts and spirits, angels, and demons along with some amazing creatures. God uses incredible imagery to capture our imagination and draw us deeper into His word. I love to study scripture because I always find new truths that go beyond the scope of imagination.
My writing has grown from my love for Jesus and a desire to share my faith with hope and encouragement. The Issachar Gatekeeper series is designed to show young adults in a fun, adventurous way the impact Christian principles can have on their lives and to deepen their understanding of the world around them.
Our heroine, Lucy, has a wonderful neighbor, Mrs. McGoo, who always comes through to save the day with her delicious chocolate chip cookies. Lucy’s best friend, Schuyler Williams, says, “A really good chocolate chip cookie is nearly a spiritual experience, don’t you think?” So, we are sharing this recipe with you so you can sit, relax, and share some with a friend. Enjoy!
